This is the fifty-third post in our Game of the Day series.

By any metric, Vista has had a rocky path to adoption. Whether or not you agree with all the hate-mongering surrounding it, you can't deny it's not a slam dunk either. Part of the issue is how old applications run with it. Well, Windows 7 really isn't different in a lot of forms of compatibility. For example, some games which insist on Administrator Privileges still don't run correctly even under Windows XP simulated mode. One such program is Alchemist Wizard.

I have no idea what this game is like, but it looked to be simple fun. I just picked the first title that caught my eye on Game Tunnel and instead I got to play "Why isn't this working" instead of zapping creatures with spells. My weapons were admin mode, compatibility settings, and a couple differently sized installers that I could not discern between. The boss is the loading screen and I never got past it. I'm running Windows 7 beta, for the record, and this isn't the first time I've had trouble with games.

I did manage at one point to get to a screen congratulating me for starting a free trial (um, thanks?) and recommending I buy the full game (um, no thanks). If you got this game to work on Vista or 7, leave some comments, everyone else I just advise you stay away from it completely.
