Alton Brown was born in 1962 in California.
Alton earned a degree in Drama from the University of Georgia and soon after entered in a career in cinematography and film production. That is until he realized that many cooking shows were not as good as they could be. So he enrolled himself in the New England Culinary Institute and he graduated in 1997.
In 1998, he created Good Eats which aired on the Chicago, Illinois, PBS member station WTTW-TV. The show was such a success that the Food Network picked it up the following year. Good Eats is now on its 12th season. Alton states that his concept for the show was a combination of Julia Child, Mr. Wizard and Monty Python. The show shows viewers the science and history behind food as well as showing them how to cook and make homemade devices that save you from having to buy expensive specialty items.
In 2004, Alton also took on the role of being the expert commentator on Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters.
Alton also starred in a mini-series called Feasting on Asphalt in which he traveled the country sampling different types of food on the go. The show was picked up for a second series which was called Feasting on Asphalt:The River Run in which Alton follows the length of the Mississippi River.
Off TV, Alton has written a number of cookbooks. He currently lives in Georgia with his wife and daughter.
