This is the 7th post in our TV Series of the Week series.
Pushing Daisies premiered on ABC in October of 2007 and ran for two seasons. The show was often labeled a "forensic fairy tale" and featured an original style and an original plot.
The series was based around Ned (Lee Pace), who was a mere pie-maker with an interesting talent. He had the ability to bring people back to life simply by touching them. This sounds great but the problem is that the would die again as soon as he touched them, and if he brought someone back to life for more than a minute, someone else would die. Ned uses this ability to solve crimes, with the help of the love of his life "Chuck" (Anna Friel) and a private investigator named Emerson Cod. Strangely enough Ned has already used his power to bring "Chuck" back to life, a fact which prevents him from ever touching her again.
In 2007, Pushing Daisies won a Satellite award for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical and a Family TV Award for Best New Series. 2008 brought 12 Emmy nominations, including Best Actor/Actress nominations for Lee Pace and Anna Friel. Critics loved the show for it's original style and story, some even calling it ABC's new Lost. Unfortunately the show found itself unable to rebound from the writer's strike and when the series resumed in it's second season, the ratings had plummeted. ABC decided not to carry the show on for a third season.
