Anne Rice was born in 1941 in New Orleans. Her real name is actually Howard Allen, after her father. She became Anne on the first day of school when she was asked what her name was.
Anne earned degrees in Political Science and Creative Writing and UC Berkley. In 1969, Anne wrote a short story entitled Interview with a Vampire, and publishers began to take an interest in her writing and in the story itself.
In 1973, after the death of her young daughter, Anne Rice turned to Interview with a Vampire and turned it into a novel within a five week period.
The book was published three years later when Anne finally found an agent willing to represent her. Paramount even bought the film rights for $150,000 with a ten year option.
Interview with a Vampire has since grown into the Vampire Chronicles which features ten books and which is are Anne's most famous books.
Both Anne and her husband are writers and they continue to work on their projects to this day. Anne has become one of the most famous vampire writers in history and many believe her to have created the only true image of the vampire.
