Joel McHale was born in Italy in 1971, but grew up in Seattle, Washington.
In 1995 he received a bachelor's degree in History and then a Master of Fine Acts in acting from the University of Washington. In 1996, he married Sarah Williams and they have two children.
After he earned his Master of Fine Arts, Joel moved to L.A and began scoring minor acting roles in shows like Will & Grace, CSI: Miami and Pushing Daisies. He even got a role in Spider Man 2 as the bank manager.
In 2004, he got his big break as host of the The Soup, a comedy show on E! that makes light of things that happened on television during the week, including other shows on E!.
Joel has also done a number of plays and commercials.
His recent film project was a role in The Informant! as FBI Agent Robert Herndon.
His newest television project is a starring role in Community a comedy series on NBC which premiered on September 19th, 2009. In the show Joel plays Jeff, a lawyer whose college degree was deemed invalid by the state bar. Jeff must now go through the entire process again, starting at a community college. The series also includes Chevy Chase and John Oliver.
