Evan Rachel Wood

This is the 62nd post in our Celebrity of the Day series.

Evan was born in 1987 in North Carolina to actress and director Sara Lynn Moore and actor, singer, and theater director Ira David Wood. With such family ties it was only a matter of time before Evan succumbed to the acting bug. As a young child she performed in a number of her father’s plays including Helen Keller in a performance of the Miracle Worker.

In 1994 he career as an actress took a turn toward the small screen with her receiving a number of parts in made for TV movies and a part in American Gothic. Four years later she earned her first major screen roles with parts in Digging to China, and Practical Magic.

In 2003, she got her real movie debut with a starring role in the controversial movie Thirteen, the role earned her a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Actress. She continued working in low budget independent films, but was able to land a role in The Missing opposite Cate Blanchet and Tommy Lee Jones.

After a number of relatively unknown roles in movies, she earned a role with an all-star cast in the 2006 Golden Globe nominated movie Running With Scissors. But the movie that would propel her into popular stardom was the role of Lucy in Across the Universe. In 2008, she played Stephanie in the Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated movie The Wrestler.

Her current projects including preparing to play Mary Jane Watson in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark. Recently she had appeared in episodes of True Blood as Sophie-Anne Leclerq. Despite her success in acting Evan has stated that she prefers music to acting and has signed a record deal with Interscope Records and is working on her debut album.
