This is the 6th post in our Movie of the Week series.

Coraline is a 3D stop motion movie that was released in theaters February of 2009 and on DVD and Blu-Ray in July. The movie involved at the efforts of 450 people, including someone whose sole purpose was to knit tiny clothes for the characters. Production for this movie took years and involved animators working tirelessly to make tiny characters have fluid movements.

The movie is an adaptation of the beloved childrens book by Neil Gaiman of the same name. The story tells of a young girl who is unsatisfied with her life. Her parents are workaholics who never seem to care, so Coraline travels through a door into a new world. At first this world seems perfect and the life she always wanted, but soon Coraline begins to realize that this new world is not as wonderful as it seems.

Critics loved the beauty and visual qualities present in the film, as well as the magnificent story that accompanied it. The movie features the talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, and John Hodgeman. From beginning to end the movie is the reason why the old style methods of animation and production should never be replaced by computers. An amazing piece of work and some critics have even hailed it as the best 3D movie ever made.
