This is the 28th post in our Musician of the Day series.
Shooter Jennings was named Waylon Jennings after his father and was born in 1979. From a young age his first love was drums, but later expanded to include guitar and piano. He did some recording with his father but soon fell in love with the sound of rock and roll.
So as a young man he left the country twang of Nashville and headed to L.A. to make a name for himself in Rock and Roll. He formed a band under the name of Stargunn and the group toured the local L.A. clubs and hot spots for around six years. But he left Hollywood and Stargunn behind in 2003, saying that he was really a country guy at heart.
He formed a new band the .357s which had him returning to L.A. The band created their first album in 2004 entitled Put the O back in Country and it was released in 2005. The band released two more albums Electric Rodeo in 2006 and The Wolf in 2007. As of 2009 he recently released a compilation album Bad Magick: The Best of Shooter Jennings and the .357s. Rumors abound that he is currently working a more rock sounding album but there has been no verification of that fact.
Shooter Jenning's live band currently consists of: Bobby Emmett on keyboards, John "The Gov'ner" Schreffler on Lead Guitar, and Keeling and Kamp for the rhythm section and goes under the name of Hierophant.
