Futurama is a animated sci-fi sitcom created by Matt Groening. The show premiered in 1999 and ran for four seasons before it was canceled. The show still had a loyal fan base which led to four episodes being made straight to DVD in 2007. The success of these DVDs and of the series in syndication has led to Comedy Central ordering 26 new half hour episodes which will premier in mid-2010.
The show focuses on Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy from the 20th century who get cryogenically frozen for 1000 years. When he is unfrozen he finds himself once again a delivery man but for the company run by his only surviving relative Professor Farnsworth. The show features an crazy and cynical bunch of characters from one-eyed Leela to the robot Bender. Nearly all of the episodes focus on the exploits of these characters as they try to make deliveries of the most random objects imaginable.
The show has won a number of awards including an Emmy for Outstanding Animation Production for the episode Roswell that Ends Well. .
