This is the 11th post in our Artist of the Week series.
Scott Mutter is an American photographer born in 1944 and he died in 2008. He focused on education even from a young age and earned a B.A. in history and a master's degree in Chinese studies.
Though many consider Scott to be surrealist photographer, he never liked the idea of being a surrealist, and so he coined the phrase surrational images. Today the images created by Scott can be done easily with photoshop and other tools, but he never succumbed to the new technology. He believed that the only way for them to truly to considered originals was for them for created in a darkroom.

Scott was not a traditional artist in that before becoming one he never had any interest in becoming an artist. He simply wanted to express something that was reality but not a physical reality. Through his pictures he found a way to show people the world as he saw it and how he wanted to see it.
Today Scott's pictures are appreciated and displayed all over the world. His work with the photomontage has had a profound impact in the field of photography and even with the power and ease of new technology his work continues to amaze.
