This is the 52nd post in our Celebrity of the Day series.

This Scottish cutie was born in 1968 and while you make recognize him as being short he’s actually 5’6’’. He grew up watching the Star Wars series and it inspired him to get into acting, so at the age of ten he acted in his school’s production of Oliver Twist. Unfortunately two years later, his parents and biggest supporters died, leaving him with his grandmother.

He stopped acting and went to school, where his love of acting was not encouraged. He went to work in a book bindery for six years, where he actually bound numerous copies of The Lord Of Rings, never knowing that those books held his future. After six years he grew tired of binding books and enrolled in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. It is then no wonder that he can not only act but play the guitar, bass and drums.

While in school he took on a few television roles in shows like Taggart and Down Amongst the Boys. After he graduated with his degree he took on a few plays but nothing major. Then one day he got a call from his agent asking if he wanted to audition for The Lord of the Rings. Bill agreed and though he did not expect much, Peter Jackson actually flew to Scotland to meet with him. He was offered the part of Pippin.

Since The Lord of the Rings trilogy his acting career has truly taken off with roles in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and The Flying Scotsman. He was even in six episodes of the series Empty. He has four movies set to come out in 2009, Glenn, Pimp, Matchstalk Man, and The Best Years. He still continues to perform on stage.
