Angel is a television series that was created as a spin-off to the popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. The show was first aired on the WB in 1999 and lasted for five seasons until 2004.
The show focuses on Angel (David Boreanaz), a vampire that was cursed by a gypsy to possess a soul. For years he has been tormented by all the death and destruction that he had caused and has thereforebeen fighting for redemption by saving people from demons and other creatures of the night. The show gathered a loyal fan base and was one of the most popular shows on the WB.
When the series was canceled dedicated fans went on the warpath with letter writing campaigns, petitions, blood and food drives and even advertisements both online and in print. The cancellation of the show has actually been put on the show's creator Joss Whedon who went to the WB and demanded that the show be chosen for early pick-up instead of being forced to wait until the last minute like in previous seasons. After being backed into a corner the WB decided to cancel the show, something which has been admitted by all as a mistake.
All five seasons can now be purchased on DVD and for those who want to know the rest of the story Joss Whedon created the comic book series Angel: After the Fall which picks up where the series left off.
