This is the 61st post in our Musician of the Day series.
The Rainmakers is a Kansas City rock band that was formed in 1983. They were originally known as Steve, Bob and Rich, which used the first names of the three members in the band, Bob Walkenhorst, Steve Phillips and Rich Ruth. They released the album, Balls under this name.
It was when they signed their name to Polygram records that they changed their name to The Rainmakers. They released their first album in 1986 and it was self-titled. The album received acclaim from the critics and even reached number 87 on the Billboard charts. But when the album hit England the success was even greater. The band's song "Let my People Go-Go" even managed to break into the UK Top 20.
This album was followed by Tornado in 1987 though this one failed to do as well in the U.S. peaking at number 116. Again the album did better overseas which prompted the band to released their final studio album in 1989 called The Good News and The Bad News. They followed this with a live album in 1990.
It was then that the band thought about going their separate ways but their popularity was still high in the Scandinavian countries and so they released two more albums before breaking up for good in 1996.
