This is the 52nd post in our Musician of the Day series.

The Kings of Convenience is an Indie folk band out of Norway. It consists of Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe who were both born in 1975 and have known each other since they were ten.

Erlend and Eirik along two other friends formed the band Skog at the age of 16. The band released one EP before breaking up. After the breakup Erlend and Eirik formed The Kings of Convenience.

In 1999, they were signed to an American label, Kindercore after they were noticed playing at a few European festivals. In 2001 they released their debut album Quiet is the New Loud. Despite the success of the album and it's followup remix album Versus, the Kings of Convenience largely disappeared.

Erlend went on to work on a solo career and another project called The Whitest Boy Alive. But the duo joined together once again in 2004 and released Riot on an Empty Street. After this album the band largely disappeared once again, only appearing for a few performances over the years.

But in 2009, they announced to fans that they were working on a new album. It has since been announced that Declaration of Dependence will be released on October 20th, 2009, but was pre-released in September for Spotify subscribers. The band has recently been touring in order to promote the album.
