Kristen Schaal was born in 1978 in Colorado. After graduating from Northwestern University she decided to move to New York in order to pursue a career in comedy. She struggled playing in small clubs and gradually building a reputation. But five years later she finally broke through when New York Magazine named her one of "The Ten Funniest New Yorkers You've Never Heard of."
She got her first acting role in 2001 when she played Miss Tree in Kate and Leopold. From there she continued to get small parts in shows and movies.
She began co-hosting the weekly variety show called "Hot Tub" at the Comix Comedy Club which was voted Best Variety Show of 2005.
In 2006 she got another big break when she was invited to perform at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and she managed to win the award for "Best Alternative Comedian."
She is also a founding member of the comedy troupe "The Striking Victory Story Pirates" which takes adapts stories written by children in skits and sketches.
Her big break into acting came in 2007 when she was cast as Mel in Flight of the Concords.
She also has roles in the recent movie releases of The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.
From 2008-2009 she has also appeared as a special correspondent on the Daily Show.
Her biggest break in comedy came in 2009 when she was given her own episode of Comedy Central Presents.
Currently she is working on a writing a book with her boyfriend and she is one of the voices in the upcoming movie Toy Story 3.
