This is the 57th post in our Musician of the Day series.

Jason Reeves was born in 1984 in Iowa City, Iowa.

At a young age he taught himself guitar and began to be inspired by musicians like Bob Dylan and James Taylor. It was their influences that encouraged him to hone and perfect his own writing, playing and singing skills.

Jason was so driven by his desire to play music that he eventually dropped out of college and moved to California.

It was in moving to California that Jason became close friends with producer Mikal Blue. It was during a recording session together that Mikal introduced Jason to Colbie Caillat. The two were the first people Jason really met in California and it was not long before the trio became almost inseparable. It was through time spent outdoors exploring California with Colbie that Jason found inspiration for his EP Hearts are Magnets which he released in 2006.

Jason's third independently released album The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (and Other Frightening Tales) was originally only available online and at Jason's shows. The album is completely written and performed by Jason himself. The album was so popular that it was named the Top Folk Album of 2007 on iTunes and as one of the Top Indie Singer-Songwriters of that year. Eventually Jason was signed to the Warner Bros. label who will be re-releasing the The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (and Other Frightening Tales).
