Aimee Ann Duffy (or better know as her stage name Duffy) was born in 1984 in North Wales with her twin sister Katy Ann. Duffy became interested in music at a young age. She started singing and writing her own lyrics around the age of six, and was always known for carrying a notebook filled with lyric ideas.
In 1998, at the age of 13, Duffy was removed from her home, (along with her sisters and Mother) and placed in a safe house when it was discovered that her stepfather's ex-wife had hired a hitman to kill him. Duffy stated that living in the safe house was horrible and she eventually ran away to live with her father. Her mother and sisters were so upset that the refused to speak to her for a year.
In 2003, Duffy appeared Wawffactor, a Welsch television talent show. Duffy, though she was expected to win, came in second. In 2004, she released an EP off the success of Wawffactor and the EP charted in Wales and began to make Duffy a much sought out singer.
In 2007, she was contracted to produce an album by A & M records. Throughout the year she appeared on a number of shows to promote the album including multiple appearances on Live with Jools Holland.
Duffy's debut album, Rockferry was released on May 3rd, 2008 and was well received. One of the songs on the album, Mercy became widely popular being played often on VH1's adult contemporary station, and it was used in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy and it was on the soundtrack for Sex and the City: The Movie.
In 2009 she won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album and was nominated for four Brit Awards, winning three.
Rockferry has topped the Welsh charts and the UK charts and even made it to number 4 on the Billboard 200. There is no doubt that this singer is definitely going to go far.
