This is the 70th post in our Musician of the Day series.
Ann Marie Calhoun was born Ann Marie Simpson in Virgina. She was only three years old when she started taking violin lessons and states that because she was so young, she does not even remember learning how to play. She feels like she has always known. Her family realized that she had a true musical gift when at the age of four she repeated the music of the marching band in the football game her father was watching.
When she was older she became a youth fellow with the National Symphony Orchestra and she attended the University of Virgina majoring in Music and Biology. After graduation she did not immediately focus on her music but rather became a teacher. But it was not long before her musical talent began to attract attention.
In 2004, she played violin on the Dave Matthews Band album Stand Up. In 2005, she toured Italy with Kantara. In 2006 she was invited to tour as a guest soloist with Jethro Tull. In 2007, she started a tour with Steve Vai. She was the winner of the "My Grammy Moment" contest and got to play onstage at the 50th Grammy Awards Ceremony with the Foo Fighters.
In late February 2008 she became recording with The Hooters.
