This is the 17th post in our movie of the week series.

Harold and Maude is a 1971 comedy featuring Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort.

The movie tells the story of a young boy named Harold who is obsessed with death. He tries numerous times to fake his own death and his mother begins to tire of his antics and states that it may be time to send him to the army. He then decides to buy a hearse and drive it to funerals. It is at these funerals that he meets Maude who also seems to enjoy traveling to funerals. Harold eventually strikes up a friendship and then a relationship with Maude, all the while being set up on blind dates. Harold refuses to grow attached to any of the blind dates, deciding instead to focus his efforts on the aging Maude.

The movie is considered by the American Film Institute to be one of the funniest movies and most romantic movies of all time. The film was also made into a Broadway play, appeared on french television and was performed onstage in Quebec.
