Katherine Howe was born in 1977 in Texas. She attended the Kinkade School and is a graduate from Columbia University. It was while earning her doctorate at Boston University that she began to get the idea for her most popular book The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane.
The book tells the story of Connie Goodwin a Harvard graduate student who finds out that her family is connected to the Salem Witch Trials. The young woman then goes on a search for more information about Deliverance Dane and to uncover the location of a Physick Book that was said to have immense power.
The book was inspired by Katherine's own connection to the Salem Witch Trials through Elizabeth Howe and Elizabeth Proctor.
Katherine and her husband, Louis Hyman are both core members of a group known as the Springfield Street Table which is a club of Cambridge area writers and scholars who get together to play poker and discuss culture and ideas.
Katherine and Louis currently live in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
