This is the 92nd post in our Celebrity of the Day series.
Demetri Martin was born in 1973 in Maryland. Demetri graduated from Yale University in 1995. He then went to NYU to pursue a law degree. He dropped out a year before finishing when he realized he wanted to be comedian. This was a hard egg to swallow for his family, especially because he had a full scholarship, but Demetri stood firm and refused to finish.
His big break into comedy would luckily come relatively quickly as he appeared on Comedy Central's premium blend in 2001.In 2003 he won the Perrier award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for his show If I.... In 2004, the show was turned into a British television special. At that same time Demetri was also a writer for the Conan O'Brian show and he had gotten his own show on Comedy Central Presents.
He moved on an in 2005 became a contributor for The Daily Show and has even appeared in a few episodes as a Senior Youth Correspondent.
But it was in 2009 that Demetri got his biggest break yet, and one that may even help ease the pain for his family about him dropping out of law school. He was given his own show on Comedy Central called Important Things with Demetri Martin. The show has received great critical acclaim, many who recognize that his postgraduate intelligence leads to comedic cleverness.
