This is the third post in our TV Series of the Week series.
Torchwood is a British Science Fiction series that premiered in 2006. The series is a spin off of the widely popular Doctor Who remake which first aired in 2005. The name Torchwood is actually an anagram of Doctor Who and was used as a ruse for the first episodes of the Doctor Who series to make sure they were not intercepted.
When Russell T. Davies was approached to make a series for the BBC he took the idea of Torchwood and thought it matched some previous ideas he had. He tied it to Doctor Who and in subsequent episodes of Doctor Who, the widely popular series began to hint toward Torchwood’s arrival.
The series itself follows a group of investigators who work for a secret organization named Torchwood. The organization works to guard alien technology that has landed on Earth and investigate crime whether it be caused by aliens or humans.
Torchwood just finished what is being called its third season. The season was called Torchwood: Children of Earth and had only five episodes. There has been no word of whether or not there will be a fourth season, but so far the series has no lack of viewers. Each of the five mini-series episodes had over six million viewers.
