Home Movies was an original animated series that aired from 1999-2004. It was originally aired on UPN but was dropped after only 5 shows, luckily Cartoon Network picked it up and the series lasted four seasons.
The show centers around 8-year old Brendan Small, who was voiced by Brendan Small. Brendan was also the creator, head writer and lead musician for the series, talk about busy! The character Brendan, makes movies with his friends while dealing with his single mother, adopted sister and alcoholic, soccer coach/friend.
Home Movies was unique in two main respects, the first was that after the series abandoned using Squigglevision, it was made entirely with Macromedia Flash. The second was similar to Dr. Katz, in that actors were given only a vague idea of the script and left to improvise the dialogue. This led to a very natural sounding dialogue filled with dry wit.
Because the show aired on Adult Swim, it was definitely filled with adult themes and racy language, but the comedy is usually on par. You certainly feel like the characters in the series are the same as if you were doing something crazy with your friends and just truly enjoying the experience.
