This is the fourth post in our Musician of the Day series.
This British Stevie Wonder was born James Morrison Catchpole in 1984. His journey into music stardom began when he was just 13 and his uncle began teaching him how to play guitar. His home life was hard and poverty stricken, so at a very young age he left to make it on his own. He provided for himself by “busking”(performing on the street).
Eventually after traveling around performing odd gigs, a demo of his music was sent to an A & R man at Polydor Records. James was promptly signed, and his first album Undiscovered was released in August of 2006, and rose to become number one in the charts. He was given an opening slot on Corinne Bailey Rae’s British tour, which propelled him up in fame as an up and coming musician.
In 2007, the popularity of Undiscovered had even reached the United States and he played a short tour there. In 2008, he released his second album Songs for You, Truths for Me, which rose the charts to number 3. But after the single Broken Strings was released from the album, Songs for You, Truths for Me, not only appeared back on the charts but rose all the way to number 1. Making James two for two in chart topping albums.
