This is the 11th post in our Musician of the Day series.

The Guano Apes are an alternative German rock band that formed in 1994. The four members of the band are: Stefan Ude on bass, Dennis Poschwatta on drums, Henning Rumenapp on guitar and Sandra Nasic on vocals.

The band gained fame in 1995 by winning Germany’s prestigious “Local Heroes” competition hosted by Germany’s music channel VIVA. The band beat out more than 1000 competitors to take the top spot. Shortly after the competition the band released their first single Open Your Eyes which not only made it into Germany’s Top Ten but remained in the Top 100 for 30 weeks.

Guano Apes then signed with Gun Records to release their first album Proud Like a God in 1997. The album went platinum in Germany and gold in a number of other European countries, causing it to hit the States in 1999. In 2000, the band released their second album Don’t Give me Names, which went gold in Germany. The band released two more albums and a best of album before their break up in 2005.

The band reunited in 2009 and is playing a few festival shows throughout Europe, but there is no mention of their future plans together as a band.
