This is the 10th post in our Musician of the Day series.
Guy Forsyth began his journey into music at the age of 16 with the harmonica and a love of singing. His love affair continued when he borrowed a friend’s guitar and learned to play. He went off to college when he discovered the gritty, blues music that he was searching for.
By 1995 he had founded two bands, the Asylum Street Spankers which he founded in 1994 and the Guy Forsyth Band. He recorded five albums with the Asylum Street Spankers before moving on from them, deciding instead to focus on his own music with the Guy Forsyth band, which consisted of Rob Hooper and Will Landin.
The Guy Forsyth Band released its first album in 1996 entitled Needle Gun. They followed this up with three other albums leading up to Guy creating his own label in 2002. He called the label Small and Nimble and it has produced every album of the Guy Forsyth Band since, releasing Voices Inside in 2002. In 2005, the band released Love Songs: For & Against which gained Guy the Austin Music Award for Best Male Vocal.
In May of 2008, the band released their latest album Calico Girl.
