T.J. Thyne was born in 1975 in Boston but he attended high school in Texas. He went on to attend the University of Southern California where he majored in Theater. While there he worked as an extra in a number of movies (including Forest Gump) and student productions. He graduated in 1997.

He got his first film role in 1998 on an episode of Home Improvement. This was quickly followed by roles in episodes of the Wayans Bros, Friends, Becker, and others.

He got his big screen debut in 1999 with a role in Scriptfellas as Jeffy. This was followed by more small film roles and television roles. He even played Stu Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

In 2000 he earned a recurring role in Walker, Texas Ranger and in 2003 he got a recurring role in Angel. He continued to have limited roles in television and movies until he got his big break in 2005.

In 2005 he was chosen to play a major role in the television series Bones as Dr. Jack Hodgins. He continues to play Hodgins in the upcoming season.

He also has three upcoming film roles in The Pardon, Shuffle, and The Last Full Measure.
