Junkie XL

JunkieXL

This is the 103rd post in our Musician of the Day series.

Junkie XL or Tom Holkenborg was born in 1967 in the Netherlands. He fell in love with music at a young age and learned to play the guitar, bass, piano and drums. He was trained classically by his mother who was a violinist but he soon discovered synthesizers. This led to him joining the Dutch New Wave group Weekend at Waikiki.

In 1993 he produced an album for the band The Gathering.

After that he continued experimenting with music and joined the industrial rock band Nerve.

In 1997 he released his first solo album Saturday Teenage Kick. This was followed by Big Sounds of the Drags in 1999. It was three years before he released another album Radio JXL: A Broadcast From the Computer Hell Cabin and Today was released in 2006.

Junkie XL is also known for creating and remixing tracks. It has been confirmed that he produced three songs for Brittney Spears' new album but there is no idea as of yet if they will be included on the new album. He has also remixed tracks by artists like Coldplay, Avril Lavigne. Sarah McLachlan, Rammstein, Scissor Sisters, Justin Timberlake, and more.

A number of his tracks have also been included in video games and television.

His most recent album Booming Back to You was released in 2008.
