Infected Mushroom was formed in 1998 in Israel when Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani began playing music together. The name Infected Mushroom came from an Israeli punk band which had disbanded.
In 1999 the duo released their first trance album The Gathering. The album was a large success and started to bring the genre of Israeli psytrance to mainstream audiences. In 2000, they released another album which has become one of their most popular entitled Classical Mushroom. The album is not only referred to as the best work of the duo but also as one of the most popular albums in the whole genre.
They released BP Empire in 2001 which took on a different side of psytrance and combined elements that were not usually found as part of the genre. This annoyed some purists but the album was still a success.
In 2003, they released Converting Vegetarians which proved to be their most controversial album because it contained two sides. The first side was the traditional trance and dance music that Infected Mushroom whereas "the other side" contained a mix of experimental sides ranging from R & B to Electro Pop.
IM the supervisor was released in 2004 and while it was the best selling of all the Infected Mushroom albums of the time it was considered too commercial by many of the fans.
Guitarists Tom Cunningham and Erez Netz joined in 2004 with Tom playing the U.S. gigs and Erez taking over all of the rest. In 2007, Infected Mushroom brought in Brazilian percussionist Rogério Jardim to play drums and percussion during their shows. That same year the also released the album Vicious Delicious.
Their most recent album Legend of the Black Shawarma was released in 2009.
