This is the 97th post in our Musician of the Day series.

Joan Elizabeth Osborne was born in 1962 in Kentucky.

In the late 1980s she decided to move to New York and it was there that she started her own record label, Womanly Hips. She released a few recordings on this label before she was signed to Mercury records. Soul Show: Live at Delta 88 was her first album and it was released in 1991 on Womanly Hips.

In 1995 she released her first album with Mercury Records and it was called Relish. The song included the hit "One of Us." The song was the most pop-like on the album and the rest had a very folksy, bluesy feel.

In 2002 she was featured in the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown and she even when on tour with Motown sidemen the Funk Brothers. In the summer of 2003 she toured with the Dixie Chicks and released her fourth album How Sweet it is.

In 2007 she performed at the Grand Ole Opry and released Breakfast in Bed.
