This is the 24th post in our TV Series of the Day series.
Clone High was an animated series that aired on MTV for one season from 2002-2003. The series actually premiered first and ran it's entire length in Canada before being shown in the U.S. There were five episodes of the series that were never broadcast in the U.S.
The show is focused on a high school that is a secret government run facility. The entire high school is populated by clones of famous people and the government hopes to one day be able to use their various strengths. The three main clones of the school are Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Ark and Mahatma Ghandi. But there are plenty of other clones featured in the show like Cleopatra and JFK.
The show gets it's humor from many pop culture references and the fact that the clones are nothing like their infamous counterparts. The series is now on hiatus with no current plans to revive it.
This show also sparked large controversy in India when many took offense to the way in which Ghandi was being portrayed in the show. In fact 150 protesters gathered together on the 55th anniversary of Ghandi's assassination in New Delhi and vowed in fast in protest of the show. MTV offered an apology saying that the show was meant for an American audience and they respected that other cultures might view the show differently.
