Oldboy is a Korean movie which was released in 2003. It is the second installment in the Vengeance trilogy after Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and before Sympathy for. Mrs. Vengeance. The movie was directed by Park Chan-wook and stars Choi Min-sik, Yu Ji-tae, and Kang Hye-jeong.
The movie tells the story of a man who was imprisoned in a hotel room for 15 years. When he is released he finds himself in the middle of web of conspiracy and violence. He goes on a quest for revenge which also leads to him finding love. The movie is well known for it's strong emotions and ambiguous ending.
It won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and in 2008 CNN voters found it to be one of the ten best Asian films ever made. It was the fifth highest grossing film of 2003 for South Korea and it was well received by critics and movie goers alike. It currently has an 81% fresh rating on Rottentomatoes.com
