This is a post in our Artist of the Week series.
Akiane Kramarik was born in 1994 in Illinois. She is a self-taught painter but she does say that she feels like she is taught by God. This was rather surprising, considering that her family was not very religious.
She started drawing at the age of four, painting at the age of six and writing poetry at the age of seven. She hopes to spread hope through her art and always has the goal for her paintings to be an inspiration to others and the gift to God.
Her dedication to her art can be seen as nothing short of amazing. Akiane wakes up at 4 a.m. most days in order to go right to her studio and paint. She only works on one painting at a time and will spend around 200 hours on each painting. This leaves her making anywhere from 8 - 20 paintings a year.
Her work is so rare and so valued that she has been featured on both Oprah and CNN as a child prodigy. Even her prints sell for hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. Akiane donates a large portion of her profits to charity.
