This is the 27th post in our TV Series of the Week series.
Homefront was created by Lynn Marie Latham and Bernard Lechowick in association with Warner Bros. Television for ABC. The show first aired in 1991 and continued for two seasons before it was canceled. Fans protested the cancellation and tried to get ABC to return the show for a third season. It was canceled because it's always changing time slot reduced it to low-ratings.
The show tells the story of different families living in the town of River Run, Ohio just after World War II. The families are all connected and are trying to find ways of coping with their own personal losses from the war. The show was known for showing life the way it was. Housing shortages, labor problems, foreign war brides, loss of jobs were just some of the post-WW2 issues that were addressed during the show. There was also character romance and an impeccable cast that made fans love the show so much that they convinced ABC to bring it back. But the changing time slot made it impossible for fans to know when the show was being aired and it was canceled a second time.
In 1992 the show was nominated for 8 Emmys of which it won 2. In 1993 (the year the show was canceled) the show was nominated for five Emmys two of which it won.
